About

The PDX Bike Commuter is about reimagining what a bike shop should be. As commuters, we need a place where we can get together and talk about our latest brush with death while tightening a spoke or two.

It might be useful to think of us a merger of Floyd’s Barber Shop and Nirvana’s “Floyd the Barber.” I’m just saying.

The Deadys

Eric, Naihma, and Felix

Now, you might be wondering who we are. Fair enough. We’re the Deadys. Eric, Naihma, Geneva and Felix. Geneva’s not in this picture and Felix is the tiny guy there.

We’ve been dreaming of opening a shop for years and, though it was a lot of work, I couldn’t be more excited this endeavour. Sellwood is an ideal location with numerous commuters looking for a place to hang out, fix their bikes and tell their tales. This place, dear friends, is for you.

But, of course, none of this would have been possible without the help and support of our families and friends.

The Counter

One such friend is Ozzie Gonzalez. He designed this counter. Concrete, steel, and reclaimed wood beams from an old wharehouse. You simply must see it. Speaking of steel, Sam Williams did all of that. Not just in the counter, he built the indexing racks you’ll see in the shop.

And Eric’s sister Lori Walsh did the fantastic logo treatment and business identity. It really is quite powerful.

And there was me, Gavin Mahaley. I did the web site. But there were many others who helped out in tremendous ways. Many thanks to all of you.
